As utilities face growing demand, aging infrastructure and increasing pressure to maximize network capacity, access to actionable asset intelligence is becoming increasingly important. To help address these challenges, AP Sensing and Sterlumiq today announced a strategic commercial and technology partnership to jointly develop and deliver integrated monitoring solutions for power transmission and distribution infrastructure worldwide.
The partnership combines AP Sensing's expertise in Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing (DTSS) with Sterlumiq’s Cable Advanced Monitoring Optical System (CAMOS) and electrical current sensing capabilities. Together, the companies will provide utilities, transmission system operators (TSOs), renewable energy developers and other network owners with an enhanced visibility into cable condition, performance and emerging risks through a unified monitoring environment.
"The global energy market is going through an incredibly exciting and dynamic phase. Working with Sterlumiq helps us to develop innovative solutions that make transmission networks safer, more powerful, and more resilient. We have many ideas that we can now implement with our partner for the benefit of our customers. With fiber-optic sensors for thermal, acoustic, and now also electrical conditions, we provide a comprehensive solution package that addresses the main challenges in energy transmission."
"Both DFOS and CAMOS provide different but highly complementary perspectives on cable behavior. Distributed sensing allows us to observe temperature, acoustic activity and strain across the cable route, while CAMOS adds direct intelligence from phase and screen-current measurements. Correlating these signals can provide a much deeper understanding of asset condition, fault behavior and available capacity, enabling utilities to shift from isolated alarms and reactive interventions towards predictive, condition-based network management.”
The companies will initially focus on integrating their technologies and analytics capabilities into scalable solutions for high- and medium-voltage cable networks while supporting regional cross-selling activities. In addition, AP Sensing and Sterlumiq will collaborate on product development, technical validation, commercial deployment and customer support across international markets.
