AP Sensing 2021 Christmas Donation Supports Refugees in Kenya

At AP Sensing, we are dedicated to the wellbeing of others. Not only does our asset monitoring technology directly impact the safety of human lives, but we also invest into social responsibility efforts concentrated on our “Passion for Plants” and “Passion for People”. With a focus on our environment or “plants”, we plant 100 trees for every DAS / DTS unit that we sell, as well as additionally offsetting the CO2 impact of our business travel. Our “Passion for People” focus is encompassed by this year’s Christmas donation, which we are excited to announce!

AP Sensing’s 2021 Christmas donation supports the improvement of hygiene conditions in a refugee camp in Dadaab, Kenya. This project affects over 250,000 vulnerable, displaced people across three camps. Our trusted partner, CARE e.V., is working to improve the local water supply, improve hygiene conditions, and educate the community about the water systems, hygiene, and the risks of COVID-19.

The Dadaab refugee camp has existed for almost 30 years; many people have been born in the camp and lived there their entire lives due to the critical security situation in Somalia. Food insecurity, weak infrastructure and insecure access to clean water make living conditions difficult and infectious diseases such as cholera widespread. In addition to this, a regulation in the refugee pact of 2006 determined that the refugees are not allowed to accept work outside of the camp, which is why they are fully dependent on care by aid organizations.

The aim of this project is to build a sustainable water supply system in order to ensure a reliable supply of clean water, to prevent the spread of diseases by building latrines, providing access to hygiene articles, and focusing on hygiene measures and education, and lastly to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the camp.

CARE was one of the first aid organizations to work in the Dadaab refugee camp, both with humanitarian aid and with long-term development cooperation projects. Our donation goes directly into funding the costs for building latrines, replacing water pipes and training residents in the maintenance of these systems. CARE also provides education on hygiene measures and access to necessary hygiene items such as soap, disinfectants and detergents. These measures strongly help in counteracting the spread of COVID-19at the camp.

AP Sensing is privileged to fund a portion of these efforts in Dadaab with our donation. We would like to thank all our customers and partners who made this donation possible with another successful year in 2021.
